Intern for Chris Dodd's Presidential Campaign!

PURPOSE

The Presidential Internship offers undergraduate students an excellent opportunity to learn and serve by acquiring first hand knowledge of, and participating in, the election process. Interns help in various areas of the campaign: finance, research, and political communication. Through this experience, interns gain an understanding of politics and knowledge that they will be able to apply to future challenges.

BENEFITS

The Intern Receives:

  • Opportunities to apply their knowledge and skills in an actual work setting;
  • A mentoring relationship with their assigned supervisor;
  • Experience in their degree area to enhance their chances for securing employment upon graduation.

The Organization Receives:

  • The intern's contributions to the campaign;
  • The ability to showcase available career opportunities.

ELIGIBILITY

The Presidential Internships are open to all undergraduate and graduate students who are currently enrolled in (or who have just graduated within three months). Applications are accepted from students of all disciplines.

EXPECTATIONS

  • Interns will be expected to assist with both basic office tasks and more substantive projects where appropriate.
  • Interns are required to work at least 20 hours per week.
  • Internships are unpaid
  • Academic credit for an internship is at the discretion of your college or university. We will assist you in providing appropriate information as requested by your school. Arrangements for credit should be made before you begin your internship.

HOW THE PROGRAM WORKS

Application Process (see below)

Positions are available for the Academic Fall 2007 and Spring 2008 semesters in Washington D.C. Iowa, New Hampshire, Nevada, South Carolina, and Connecticut. Students must submit a current resume and two references.

Applications received for a particular intern position are forwarded to the Intern Director for review, and then interviewed. Applicants will be notified whether or not they are accepted.

Orientation Process

Once accepted, Presidential Interns attend an orientation meeting with the Intern Organizers. This meeting provides an overview of program expectations, an explanation of how the program works, and reviews the roles and responsibilities of each participant.

Program Monitoring

During the internships, interns regularly check in with the Intern Director about their assignments. This ongoing monitoring ensures the best possible intern experience.

Closing Ceremony

At the end of the internship, a final meeting is held to celebrate individual successes and evaluate the program.
